Before you commit to any program, get answers to a handful of questions in writing or over the phone. We put this list together because the right questions tell you more than any brochure will.
Start with the basics of who is treating your family member and how:
- Is the center licensed in its state, and by whom? Ask for the accrediting body by name.
- Who is on the clinical team, and what are their licenses? You want to know if a physician, nurse, and licensed therapists are actually on staff.
- What is the ratio of clients to clinicians?
- How does family get involved? Ask about family sessions, visiting, and how often you will hear updates.
- What does the discharge plan look like? A good answer names specific next steps, not a vague promise of support.
- How do they measure whether treatment worked, and will they share that with you?
